We love batting for sculpting, but nothing beats roving and combed top for needle felted doll hair. It's great for long-haired needle felted dogs too!
Merino wool is one of the most readily available types of wool. It comes prepared most often as combed roving (aka Tops or Sliver) and is fine, soft and luxurious. We offer roving in convenient 16" lengths which is plenty for a 12" doll.
But for needle felters, with its long, fine fibers neatly combed into ropes (also known as tops,) roving can be difficult to needle felt. It does, however, make perfect needle felted doll hair. We also use wisps for shading, blush, lip & eye color. This long silky fiber is difficult to use as your primary fiber for sculptural needle felting but for surface design, hair and shading, it is always a terrific choice.
We offer Roving in small quantities to accommodate the needs of needle felted doll makers. A 16" length of Roving is enough wool for hair for an average 12" doll.
We offer Roving in a wide variety of dyed colors and natural colors.
